The Basic School Student Officers Quarters Design-Build
As part of a design-build team, McMullan joined Harkins Builders and Stanmyre & Noel Architects to provide structural design and construction phase services for four, multi-story dormitory buildings that houses space for 976 student officer beds with training facilities, laundry rooms, lounges, meeting rooms, restrooms, and offices. These quarters are part of The Basic School at Marine Base Quantico in Virginia and total 372,000 SF.
The typical structure is precast concrete plank bearing on CMU walls with CMU partition walls and metal trusses. The buildings have blast-resistant windows, brick veneer, and a metal roof. All buildings meet UFC Seismic, Anti-Terrorist/Force Protection and Progressive Collapse requirements UFC-4-02-03, and meet LEED NC Silver specifications.
