Orville Wright Federal Building (FAA) Garage Repairs

The federal building, which serves as headquarters to the Federal Aviation Administration, is a 40-year-old, 10-story reinforced concrete structure with two parking levels below grade for 480 vehicles. Deterioration of the underground concrete parking levels has been ongoing for a long period of time, prompting repair projects in 1985 and 1989 with temporary shoring in 2000 and 2001. The structure comprises a combination one-way concrete joists and reinforced concrete one-way slab with beam system. The deteriorated concrete was removed by hydro-demolition and jackhammering. Work, which included asbestos and lead paint abatement, was split into four phases to allow limited parking throughout duration of the project.
