Mount Vernon Treading Barn Historic Reconstruction
McMullan adapted modern structural and code requirements to design this historic reconstruction of a 16-sided, heavy-timber treading barn on George Washington’s estate at Mount Vernon. The barn was originally designed and built by George Washington, circa 1792. The barn will be submitted to the National Register of Historic Places and added to the National Historic Landmark Site to be used as a working museum for public exhibition. The integration of a modern foundation system, electrical services, and provisions for accessibility were also provided. The reconstruction also includes a corn house and a stable.
